10/3/2012

SUNY (State University of New York), Geneseo
October 3 - December 5, 2012

Food is central to all life and is manifested in diverse realms of human experience including religion, politics, economics, gender, science, health and art. The exhibition The Ecology of Food: Past, Present, Future seeks to explore the many ways the world’s food supply has been impacted by natural changes and disasters, global warming, human actions, public policy and genetic engineering. These are just several areas that can be referenced in this college-wide project that will engage participants from chemistry, anthropology, biochemistry, sociology, organic gardening, food disorders, and nutrition.

The Ecology of Food: Past, Present, Future features artists whose practice concerns food and social justice; food and family; the social aspects of sharing food; the food industrial complex; hunger; climate change and its affect on farming; genetic engineering; food and religion; food economics; and food as it relates to gender, health, biology and medicine. The Ecology of Food: Past, Present, Future is a semester long exhibit. Back to Eden Film was selected to screen on November 28, 2012. www.geneseo.edu/galleries/current_lederer
