HOW TO FERTILIZE YOUR GARDEN
Learn how to fertilize a Back to Eden organic garden.
“Every time you water or it rains, compost tea is being deposited into the soil.” - Paul Gautschi
STEP #1Add 1-2 inches of composted animal manure from chickens, horses, cows, sheep etc. on top of you garden bed.
Do not till. Add a layer. Rake Back mulch and cover the manure or water it in. NOTE: Allow horse manure to compost for at least 4-6 weeks before use in order to kill weed seeds. Otherwise you may be adding weed seeds to your garden. TIP: A sign of nitrogen deficient plants are yellowing leaves. |
TIP: For small gardens, you can purchase organic fertilizer in a bag. However, if you need more volume, you can check Craigslist for local resources.
|
OPTIONAL STEPApply liquid organic fertilizers to your garden such as fish emulsion.
|
OPTIONAL STEPAdd grass clippings, leaves, or any green organic matter full of nitrogen and nutrients.
Do not till. Add a layer. |
